Manitoulin Island is located at the
northern edge of Lake Huron. Manitoulin is the largest freshwater island in the
world at 180 kms - long (112 miles) and 50 kms wide (31 miles) an area of 1,068
square miles (2,766 square km). The name Manitoulin is derived from an
Algonquin Indian word for island of the spirits.
Dawson Cottage Resort is located close to
many of Manitoulin Island's attractions, fine restaurants, hiking trails
(including the famous "Cup & Saucer"), beaches, horseback riding, cycling,

Activities on Manitoulin Island:
Take a day and hike, or if you enjoy biking, tour through some of the best
parts of Manitoulin Island; simply enjoy the pleasures in the delight of
spotting wildlife in its natural habitat. Drive around the Island, this is sure
to be an interesting and enjoyable tour through some of the small Towns and
Villages that you will find along the way.
Fishing on Manitoulin Island:
Anglers can test their skills fishing Lake Kagawong for smallmouth bass,
northern pike, jumbo perch and walleye (pickerel) or you may choose to hire a
fishing guide and fish some of the other lakes on Manitoulin Island. The open
waters of Lake Huron and the North Channel provide an outstanding fishery for
king salmon, lake trout, brown trout, and steelhead. Several local charter boat
services can provide you with an all equipped day of big water fishing that
you'll never forget. Lake Manitou is the largest lake on Manitoulin and Lake
Kagawong is the second largest lake on Manitoulin. Fish on Lake Manitou for
lake trout, bass or jumbo perch. If you are interested in fishing charters or
fishing guides please let us know in advance to avoid disappointment. At the
end of your fishing adventure, you can sit back and enjoy a great feed of fresh
fish.
We offer boat and motor rentals at Dawson
Resort. Public boat launching facilities are also available, and for those
wishing to bring their own boat we have docking space.
Hunting on Manitoulin Island:
Manitoulin has excellent hunting for small game, waterfowl and deer, each year
there are about 3,000 deer harvested. The annual hunt is held Monday thru
Sunday of the third week in November. Bow hunting season begins the first
Saturday in October and continues to the Friday before the gun hunt begins.
Early in December, there is a three day black powder season and extended

We have space available for a few tents
and trailers or you can rent one of Dawsons vacation cottages. Most of
our camping sites have a view of Lake Kagawong. We have one, two. three and
four bedroom, furnished, housekeeping cottage rentals overlooking beautiful
Lake Kagawong. Each cottage has hot and cold running water and a 2 or 3 piece
bathroom, central showers are also located at the resort. Each cabin includes
bedding and you will need to bring towels, tea towels, dishcloths, and personal
items.
Our season of
operation is May to November.
During the summer, we prefer to rent by
the week but we will not turn away a partial week or day rental if we have a
cottage available. |
